1. Third-person: In a game were you customize and invest in your character, you want to see and appreciate your work. People love to admire their character and all their sweet gear. The other (and probably more important) reason is that third-person offers better perspective. In a third-person view the player can better see his/her peripherals and what is immediately behind them. It allows the player to better see his/her surroundings.
2. Cover Based: I am a big fan of Battlefield , Call of Duty, Titanfall, etc. Basically I like shooters. What I don't like is how arcade-ish they have become. Its all about shooting people in the back while running around as fast as possible, jumping all over the place. I want to slow the pace down. I want to make it more realistic. Create a game that is equal parts strategy and skill. Gears of War does a good jump at this. Cover based shooters favors the team that take the time to strategizes their movements and positioning. This doesn't mean slow and boring game play. Its means having options to rushing, flanking or falling back; instead of always rushing.
